Hiking in San Diego  San Diego's many diverse trails offer hikers exhilarating and serene experiences. From an inspiring hike along the beach in Torrey Pines State Park, to an invigorating hike up Garnet Peak in Alpine, San Diego trails lead individuals to some of the most beautiful and secluded spots around town.This hiking club has been created for our friends and family who join us on monthly hikes into the Deserts, Mountains, Foothills and Beaches of San Diego County. It's a group of people who truly love the outdoors and enjoy spending an afternoon together experiencing all of San Diego's wonder and each other's friendship. Please feel free to join us sometime for a hike - and a little wonder along the way. Carlsbad to Cardiff Hike Review - UPDATED (08/17/05) The weather cooperated for a five and a half mile morning stroll along the Pacific shoreline from south Carlsbad to Cardiff. Coastal clouds shielded us from the burning August sun as we walked south along the cliffs that have been ravaged by high tides and recent storms. Debris was scattered along the shore and on the cliffs, including two Hobie cats that fell mid-way down as if attempting to get back to the water on their own. As we approached Swami's, the narrowest part of the shoreline, we realized that the tide was coming in faster than expected and we did some rock scrambling so we didn't get our feet wet. That is except for Tom, who took off his shoes and walked in the water. Undaunted by the rock hazards, our group continued on to arrive at Cardiff State Beach only and hour and 45 minutes after we started. Friendships were renewed along with the desire to continue our treks at least once a month. Later at the Mitchell's several more in our hiking group appeared, along with delicious salads, appetizers and desserts. After the hiking meeting was called to order, we discovered that our Jerry Schad hiking book was left in Jamie's car, and Duane and Jane forgot theirs' only to find it in their car as they were leaving. But our intrepid group searched in the recesses of their minds for favorite hikes we've done in the past and we came up with seven. It was decided to save the third Saturday of each month to get together to hike San Diego & Riverside mountains, deserts and shoreline. See the pictures! |
